Development of a Near-Infrared Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy System for CO2 Isotope Detection

چکیده
Carbon dioxide detection has been of interest to scientists for several years due to the importance of atmospheric carbon concentrations and its effects on Earth’s climate. To help monitor and predict transport of atmospheric carbon, NASA created the Active Sensing of CO2 Emissions over Nights, Days and Seasons (ASCENDS) program. Working alongside NASA, Colorado State University has developed a bench-top, near-infrared (NIR) cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) system to detect atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide and its isotopes. Specifically, the CRDS system includes a one meter long atmospheric sampling cell operating at a reduced working pressure, an NIR fiber-coupled distributed feedback diode laser, an indium-galliumarsenide (InGaAs) detector, and high-speed LabView-based data acquisition system. This system will be used to support the ACSENDS initiative to further our understanding of carbon transport in the atmosphere.

Applications of cavity ring-down spectroscopy to high precision isotope ratio measurement of 13C/12C in carbon dioxide.
Recent measurements of carbon isotopes in carbon dioxide using near-infrared, diode-laser-based cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) are presented. The CRDS system achieved good precision, often better than 0.2 per thousand, for 4% CO2 concentrations, and also achieved 0.15-0.25 per thousand precision in a 78 min measurement time with cryotrap-based pre-concentration of ambient CO2 concentratio...

Prevalent methods for making high-accuracy tower-based measurements of the CO2 mixing ratio, notably nondispersive infrared spectroscopy (NDIR), require frequent system calibration and sample drying. Wavelength-scanned cavity ring-down spectroscopy (WS-CRDS) is an emerging laser-based technique with the advantages of improved stability and concurrent water vapor measurements. Results are presen...

RATIONALE It was recently shown that the presence of CO2 affects the stable isotope (δ2 H and δ18 O values) analysis of water vapor via Wavelength-Scanned Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy. Here, we test how much CO2 is emitted from soil samples and if the CO2 in the headspace influences the isotope analysis with the direct equilibration method by Off-Axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy (OA-...

High fluences inside cavity ring-down spectroscopy optical resonators lend themselves to fluorescence or Raman spectroscopy. An instrument at 488 nm was developed to measure extinction, and fluorescence of aerosols. A detection limit of 6 x 10;-9 cm;-1Hz;-1/2 (0.6 Mm;-1Hz;-1/2) was achieved. The fluorescence spectral power collected from a single fluorescent microsphere was 10 to 20 pW/nm. This...

We have developed an instrument to measure trace concentrations of small hydride species in gases using continuous-wave cavity ring-down spectroscopy with near-infrared diode laser excitation. An rms baseline equivalent absorbance of 9.2 x 10(-11) cm(-1)/square root(n) is found, where n is the number of ring-down transients. When the 1396.376-nm absorption line of water is used, this correspond...
